What wonderful paintings Lilith, I particularly like the 'lemon' one. The paintings could be worth quite a lot in years to come, if not already. Hope you are all well, and Pig Pup is being a good Doggie. Any news on 'Daughter's' Oxford Interview ?
Well spotted Trubes, Tom is a master of the luscious lemon.
Er, ref Oxford interview, I am trying to be discreet. All I can say is that she blew it in spectacular style, through a combination of a misunderstanding and poor preparation. Mummy is secretly relieved as her little girl is not really ready for it/they are not yet ready for her ;-)
Tom paints a lot of fruit. He also paints cakes and biscuits My Girl points out. Her theory is because I have gorgeous pictures of fruit everwhere I subconciously think I am eating it and so fail to buy any when I go shopping. Her suggestion is that I get some of his cake paintings.
I find the last one very poignant - it says to me, where is the person who's not at the breakfast table, has he/she died? Did they not come home? Have they left? Have they picked up a brush and paints to record their favourite moment of the day? It's intriguing.
Sorry about Daughter 'blowing it', obviously isn't meant to ne at this time. I hope I havn't put my foot in it by asking, Lil. None of my girls went to Oxbridge but have all done quite well in their chosen Careers. They always find their own levels. It's just the initial disappointment of, perhaps, feeling that you've let your parent/s down. Pictures of cakes is a brilliant idea, can your friend do Gin and Tonic paintings too?
Trubes - "They always find their own levels."?? Cripes I'm depressed! Every successful person has said that luck played a part.. but if you work your arse off you're more prepared to grab opportunities when they occur (but that doesn't explain John Prescott)
Most important thing is not to give up - best luck in all that she does Lil, only I wouldn't send her to Afhganistan, or Irag, or Iran..
Dumbo Trubes; Fancy me not noticing Gin in a glass, the clues are there,ie. size and shape of glass and lemons, what a ass, theres no hope , must be the medication! Glad Daughter is making plans for her future. The Middle East, how exciting ! 'The world is her oyster' and I wish her well in all she does.xx
I'm with rubes on the lemon. I would like to know whether the butter dish is decorated with mens winkles, as seems to be Tom's speciality when not depicting fruit.
AI YAH! He is good isnt he? I'm no art expert but I know what I hate, and I dont hate those*
Reminds me of a news item I saw , two Van Goughs bought by a Japanese bank . From a distance they looked the same, close up one was a daub, the other(the real one)looked as if an angel had taken a picture into the palm of his hand and gently smeared it upon the canvass, something way beyond the Emins and Hirsts and the peasents who keep them in cocaine.
I won't be sending My Girl to Afghanistan, Pip. Although she has a friend who worked for an NGO in Kabul. She fancies Lebanon.
I just love Tom's work. It is more than a realistic vision of ordinary objects. I have a painting of a plate of olives he did which I can just look at for hours :-)
Lilith; the first one(Hoogstraten) is stunning. Tom Elliott does have a gift doesn't he!
I 'know' that view from something I've recalled years ago, obviously not this actual scene, but it is so damn moody, I'm going to print it off and stare at it all day!
Thanks for these; Mrs S would possibly explain to me that anything to do with gin and lemons is down to our dual self imposed rhinitis unpleasantness...
On the other hand, I'm getting better, so 'Up and away we go, through the fields, across the snow; big brown beastie big brown face, I'd rather be here than flying through space....'! (Mike Oldfield)!
Yes, Mullah (Daughter's pet name for her mama) will be seriously fretful. But she will cross that bridge when she comes to it....after all, Daughter was going to be Prime Minister for a while...

Yes, paintings of cakes Philippa are the answer! Don't want to end up like this guy

Don't think there's much chance of that - eew!

It is actually Gin in the Christening Glass Trubes...:-)
My Girl is now talking about going to the Middle East to learn Arabic....

Blimey, Lil, blown away here by this chap's work.

...or even "trubes" !!!
Stone cold sober and still the typing accuracy shocks
You were not to know that it's gin Trubes..apparently it is easier to paint..:-)
I love his stuff TT.

*Hat tip to Monty Burns
Despot, tyrant, despoiler of planet earth and shoe fetishist.
They are fantastic ! I love them. LOVE them.
You have originals ??

My fave Monty Burns quote "I bring you LURVE"
The top four pictured are in my house E-K. The first is big, the second third and fourth are medium sized... the butter for example is about 2'3 wide.
Trubes,
The clue to the christening glass containing gin is that the liquid ish vishcoush. Hic. Yesh?

Not Lebanon, mullah. Syria, and Jordan.
Ah, Syria and Jordan, my Poppet.
Glad you like, Scroblene :-) If you have ever been to Dyrham House you may have seen the Hoogstraten in question.
Glad you are on the mend :-)
Syria and Jordan? Forgive me daughter but I'd worry enough about you if you were in Oxford or York. Syria and Jordon would just do my head in.
